Songs for the Hurting Heart: a playlist of worship music to usher in healing

Anger· Anxiety· Emotional Health· Fear· Forgiveness· Grief & Overwhelm

Beautiful midwest skies over Kansas City, near the house we used to live in.

Music unlocks my heart. It has a way of reaching past my guarded walls, of gently calling out the parts of me I’m self-protecting. It helps me get to a place where I can hear the sadness of my own heart – to a place where it feels safe enough to creep out of the darkness and into the light. Sometimes, we just have to sing our way back to His heart and His arms. We just have to sing our way back into the truth of our belovedness, of our wholeness, of our healing.

And when I lose direction

When I can’t see the stars

If we get disconnected

I’ll sing my way back to Your heart

I’ll sing my way back to Your arms

-Steffany Gretzinger

And to add to the grief of our past, our present days are collectively becoming more turbulent, more intense. The waters of time are starting to boil and overflow with political unrest and even violence in the streets. If there’s ever been a season where we need worship music to help us steal away back into God’s arms, and to help us decompress from the heaviness of a divided nation, that season is now. To that end I wanted to share a beautifully curated Spotify playlist from my friend Sunny, who is a seasoned minister of healing. It’s playing on repeat even now as I type. Enjoy these songs and I hope they bless you! And – if you’re looking for deeper healing in a private one-on-one zoom session, I encourage you to reach out to my friend! My time with her brought about a new measure of joy and healing. Shalom peace to you!
